A friend of mine and I were talking the other day and she said “I’m home right now, and I don’t need to have a blog to justify it.” It struck a cord with me. I felt like I had been slapped.
I have a blog. This blog create’s zero income for my family at this time but I still have one. Was she saying that we, as women, couldn’t just be home without justifying it? Did I do this? I love blogging. Was it validating my worth and she was better because she didn’t need that? Why did she have to say that? Was she justifying her own decision by even voicing this opinion?
We each (men included) carry around with us a question that causes us to second guess our decisions and our values. Making us vulnerable and needing to feel like we must validate our own choices.
This personal question is different for us all but creates the same results. People put value to this by measuring things up against others or an imaginary ideal. And everything we do we justify to this question. Whether we’re justifying good things or bad we justify it. The dictionary says to Justify is : to defend or uphold as warranted or well-grounded:
Here’s the thing. We are justified in Christ! We do not have to uphold anything. Praise! So let’s stop having to prove that our choices are best and others aren’t. Or that one is more worthier than the other. Your road is yours to walk.
If someone (this includes ourselves) makes us feel like we have to “prove” our choices than we are not living in freedom. The freedom to live OUR best lives! The freedom Jesus died for. Because, only you can live the identity He gave you. If you don’t than you deprive the world of the very purpose of you!
Let us stop sabotaging our own identities and others. You are WORTHY! You are worthy of being a stay at home dad, or a business shark, a blogger, an athlete, or a leader. You may be a teacher, a support system for your significant other, or all of the above. The only person you have to “prove” anything to is God. Through Jesus Christ you are already justified. Once again, Praise!!
Often I find the things I try to “prove” are the ones I know are not correct to my own true identity and purpose. The ones I try to convince myself and others that are “ok”.
What things do you feel you have to explain or prove? Who undermines your identity and purpose? Are there any choices or habits you have to justify to yourself? Are you claiming any identification as “The Lord” when it’s not? Are you not living up to your true calling?
Ephesians 2:10
For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.
May you live in good works – whatever that may be. May you listen to the callings God has put in you and walk in Dignity!
