Lovely

They were sitting at little breakfast place with briefcase backpacks in tow and wearing collared shirts with logos. As all business men at the 21st century do these days. The waiter came over and addressed them. “How can I serve you lovly’s today?” That one sentence changed things. It sparked curiosity and a bright tear in my eye when my husband retold the story. People don’t call eachother these types at names anymore. The men were middle aged and dressed casually. It was not high fashion or a ladies brunch. It was a normal Tuesday coffee meeting. And they were described as lovely. Lovely.

The word means charming, exquisite, beautiful, delightful, and highly pleasing. The one man so shocked by the description paused so long it was almost aquward. “I’m bald and not with my wife. I don’t know if I’ve ever been called this.” What a revelation and also so tragically sad at the same time.

What are some descriptive words that you would love to hear? What positive phrases do you want to claim over yourself? Are we as a society and as a people overwhelmed and undervalued so much that one person seeing us, and calling us out to who we are surprises us?

Today, I tell this story because I want to encourage you to look up, to see, to value, and to speak out on the very gift that all human brings give to the world! You are lovely and so are they. You bring intricate and unique value just by your very existence. May we all see the extrodinary in the ordinary.
